Job summary

Devonshire Care Center is seeking a Health Care Aide (HCA) to provide direct personal and nursing care to residents under supervision. Responsibilities include assisting with ambulation, feeding, bathing, and grooming, and supporting restorative care per the care plan.

The role requires CHLA license or HCA/PSW training, and prior experience with seniors is preferred. Candidates must communicate effectively and maintain accurate records, contributing to a compassionate care environment.

Qualifications

• CHLA license is required.
• Graduate of an approved Health Care Aide or Personal Support Worker course or equivalent.
• Experience with seniors and chronic care residents is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct personal and nursing care to residents as directed.
• Assist with ambulation, feeding, bathing, grooming, and restorative care.
• Observe and report changes in residents’ physical and emotional condition.
• Follow resident care plans and maintain accurate records of condition and treatments.
• Assist with meal service and nourishment delivery, reporting appetite/hydration changes.
• Maintain records reflecting residents’ condition, care, and treatments.

Job description

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse and supervision by the Resident Care Manager, the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides direct personal and nursing care for assigned residents in accordance with the policies and work routines of Devonshire care Center.
Assists in providing restorative care for residents; assists with ambulation, feeding, bathing, and grooming.
Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting changes in the residents’ physical and emotional condition.
Knows and understands the guidelines of care of assigned residents as outlined in the resident care plans and provides consistent, quality care as outlined in the care plan.
Assists with meal service and nourishment delivery to residents and provides feeding assistance as required and reports and records any changes to appetite and/or hydration.
Assists with the maintenance of records reflecting each residents’ condition, care, and specific treatments.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required:
  • CHLA License
  • Graduate of an approved Health Care Aide or Personal Support Worker course or equivalent, as recognized by Alberta Health Services.
• Preferred:
  • Experience in working with seniors and/or chronic care residents in a health care facility. For those working on specialized units (i.e., Alzheimer’s), a willingness to complete a course on the specialty.

SKILLS

• You are a self-directed individual with excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Attention to detail, above average problem-solving skills and effective time management skills are a must.
• Strong customer service skills and a focus on promoting positive working relationships with residents, families, and co-workers.
