Job summary

Covenant Health is seeking a dedicated Health Care Aide on a casual basis at Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton. You will support post operative and general patient care across surgery units, collaborating with a high-functioning team to ensure comfort, safety and dignity for patients.

The role requires Alberta CLHA license, BLS, and at least one year of adult acute care experience. Lifting, mobility support, and strong communication with the care team are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with and hold a valid CLHA practice permit in Alberta.
• At least 1 year of recent adult acute care experience within last 2 years.
• Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C).
• Physically able to assist with patient care and transport (lift 11 kg, push/pull 27 kg).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct personal care and health support to patients across the surgical units.
• Support activities of daily living and monitor changes in health status.
• Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary teams to implement care plans.

Job description

The MCH Surgery Program is looking for dedicated and committed HCA's that are eager to learn about post operative patient care management. The Casual employee will provide safe and compassionate care for a wide variety of patient populations across all surgery units including 5 East (The NEW Surgical Care Unit opening this fall!), 6 East and 6 West. This would include patients under orthopedic, general, urology, gynecology and plastics surgery services as well as medicine services where applicable. The successful candidate will gain the skills to care for all types of surgical patients as well as working within high functioning team environments.

Description:

The Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated health professional who provides direct personal care and health support services to clients across the lifespan, in accordance with their scope of practice, regulatory standards, and government legislation. Functional supervision is provided by a member of the nursing team and may occur directly or indirectly in accordance with client needs, care context, and regulatory standards. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team the HCA provides care in alignment with documented care plans and assigned or delegated tasks, delivering assistance with activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting changes in health status, and supporting the physical, emotional, psychosocial and behavioural well being of clients.HCAs attend to clients¿ comfort, engagement, and safety by recognizing changes in behaviour, responsiveness, participation, or signs of distress, and by promptly sharing observations with the appropriate team member. They play a vital role in promoting comfort, dignity, and continuity of care, and demonstrate flexibility in responding to the needs of clients and the care team. HCAs actively engage in continuous improvement through feedback, self-reflection, and learning opportunities. The role requires initiative, openness to growth, and a strong commitment to professionalism, responsibility, and accountability. Required Qualifications:

Must be registered with and hold a valid practice permit from College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

At least one year of recent and related adult acute care experience required, within the last two years. Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C). Physically able to assist with all aspects of patient/resident care and transport, e.g. walking, standing, bending, lifting and turning and other physical tasks required on the unit. Must be able to lift weights up to 11 kg (24 pounds) and push/pull weights up to 27 kg (60 pounds).PLEASE NOTE: This posting is scheduled to close at 23:59 of the posting end date but may be filled earlier under LOU #20 if a regular employee of the same classification who holds a regular position within this unit expresses their interest in this vacancy by 23:59 on the 5th calendar day following the posting date.
