The Health and Safety Specialist will report to the Senior Consultant Health and Safety and be a trusted advisor and partner; they will support the execution of Purolator's health and safety programs in Quebec.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Apply the principles of continuous improvement in establishing and instilling a robust safety culture.
  • Actively promote a healthy workplace, free from violence and harassment.
  • Collaborate with the Environment, Health and Safety Department team and partners to reduce injury frequency.
  • Inform, consult, and influence management regarding security requirements impacting decisions, operations, systems, and procedures.
  • Work directly with Unit Managers and District Managers to implement and enforce health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor, review, and produce monthly reports on health and safety performance indicators.
  • Contribute to or lead incident investigations using our Cority program, performing root cause analysis, determining corrective actions, and ensuring follow-up.
  • Support Purolator's return-to-work program.
  • Assist in external safety audits by identifying risks, non-compliance cases, and recommending mitigation measures.
  • Ensure health and safety measures are integrated into new processes, equipment, and contracts.
  • Provide coaching to managers on safe work practices and record evaluations.
  • Maintain records for safety evaluations and incidents.
  • Act as a facilitator for health and safety measures and incident investigations, ensuring timely completion and follow-up.
  • Train front-line managers on incident investigations.
  • Participate in safety visits, document findings, and monitor corrective actions.
  • Implement safety observation and intervention programs.
  • Contribute to the development of new safety procedures and standards.
  • Lead or participate in job risk analysis sessions and reviews.
  • Offer technical safety advice to safety committees.
  • Conduct safety inspections and act as a workplace safety trainer.
  • Collaborate with transportation security and dangerous goods teams.
