Description

The Health and Safety Specialist will report to the Health and Safety Senior Advisor and be a trusted advisor and partner; they will support the execution of Purolator's health and safety programs in Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Apply continuous improvement principles to establish and promote a robust safety culture.
  • Actively promote a healthy, violence- and harassment-free workplace.
  • Collaborate with the Environment, Health and Safety Department and partners to reduce injury frequency.
  • Advise management on security requirements affecting decisions, operations, systems, and procedures.
  • Work with Unit and District Managers to implement and enforce health and safety procedures.
  • Monitor, review, and report on health and safety performance indicators monthly.
  • Lead incident investigations using the Cority program, performing root cause analysis and follow-up.
  • Support Purolator's return-to-work program.
  • Assist with external health and safety audits, identifying risks, non-compliance, and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Integrate health and safety measures into new processes, equipment, and contracts.
  • Provide coaching to front-line managers on safe work practices and record evaluations.
  • Maintain proper records at each depot.
  • Facilitate local safety initiatives, incident investigations, and follow-up actions.
  • Train and coach managers on incident investigations.
  • Participate in safety visits, inspections, and safety observation programs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of health and safety procedures and standards.
  • Lead or participate in job risk analysis sessions.
  • Advise health and safety committees and participate in inspections.
  • Act as a workplace health and safety trainer.
  • Collaborate with security and dangerous goods teams.

Education

The successful candidate must have

  • A diploma of at least two years in occupational health and safety.
  • One year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Labor Code, Part 2, and provincial laws.
  • Experience in road safety and transportation security compliance is an asset.
  • Understanding of risk management and loss control principles.
  • Proven ability to influence peers and employees effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Availability to work outside traditional hours.
