Summit Veterinary Pharmacy is currently looking for a Health and Safety Specialist to fill one full-time vacancy in our busy Human Resources Department team.

Located in Aurora, Ontario, Summit has been supplying prescription compounded medications to veterinary clinics across Canada for over 20 years. Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations, rules, permits, and licenses relevant to the site.
  • Maintain chemical risk assessment programs, air and surface quality testing, respiratory protection programs, and update regularly.
  • Perform, review, and maintain Job Hazard Analyses for employee tasks.
  • Conduct workplace safety audits.
  • Collect and analyze Health and Safety statistical data, produce reports, identify trends, and develop preventative strategies.
  • Correct hazards, unsafe conditions, and safety concerns promptly.
  • Provide ongoing advice, guidance, and support on Occupational Health and Safety issues to management and employees.
  • Lead accident investigations, recommend risk reduction measures, and facilitate safety improvements.
  • Co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee, conduct inspections, and support safety initiatives.
  • Maintain and update safety training programs, including first aid, spill response, and other relevant training.
  • Implement and update policies according to legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Attend and support JHSC meetings, take minutes, and act as a resource on safety issues.
  • Deliver safety training courses and presentations, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, and accidents, and investigate root causes.
  • Coordinate with the head pharmacist to ensure safety practices align with regulations.
  • Maintain fire safety programs, including drills and warden training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Certificate in Health and Safety Consulting (CHSC) designation.
  • Active member of HRPA; CHRL or CHRE designation is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or manufacturing environments is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • First Aid Certification.
