RCS is a successful commercial Construction Management company recognized with the Newcomer Entrepreneur Award of Distinction at the 2020 Alberta Business Awards and named one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies in 2021 by The Globe & Mail. Our dynamic team values a fun, collaborative atmosphere, strong core values, and a fresh, professional approach to construction management.

With offices in Calgary, Vancouver, and Winnipeg, RCS is proud to serve Western Canada and is poised for further expansion. We are home-grown, Prairie-based, and people-first — building more than just structures; we’re building community.

Job Overview

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health and Safety Manager to champion and advance our safety culture across all RCS project sites. This leadership role is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of RCS’s occupational health and safety programs. The Health and Safety Lead will work closely with project teams, field staff, and leadership to ensure the highest safety standards are met and exceeded, while fostering a proactive safety-first mindset throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, execution, and continuous improvement of RCS’s health and safety management systems, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and support teams in implementing corrective actions.
  • Support project managers and superintendents with training, safety planning, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
  • Act as the key liaison with external safety consultants, regulators, and industry associations.
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions on health and safety topics, ensuring all staff are equipped and empowered to uphold safety protocols.
  • Monitor safety trends and KPIs, and provide regular reports and recommendations to the executive leadership team.
  • Promote a culture of health, safety, and well-being by leading by example, providing mentorship, and celebrating safety wins.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in a health and safety role within the commercial construction industry.
  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent).
  • In-depth knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation, CSA standards, and construction site safety requirements.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage teams in safety best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver effective training.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites across Western Canada.

Desired Competencies

  • Leadership – Sets the tone for safety culture company-wide. Able to lead by influence and build trust at all levels.
  • Strategic Thinking – Uses data and trends to improve safety outcomes proactively, not just reactively.
  • Detail-Oriented – Diligent in documentation, inspections, and compliance tracking.
  • Organized – Maintains clear systems and timelines to manage multiple sites and initiatives.
  • Calm Under Pressure – Approaches incidents and investigations with a problem-solving mindset, not panic.
  • Effective Communicator – Able to tailor messaging to frontline workers, managers, and executives alike.
