Job summary

A leading manufacturing company in Winnipeg is seeking an Environmental Compliance Officer. The role involves performing inspections, managing waste disposal, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Candidates should be equipped with knowledge of pollution control and report preparation. This position is crucial for maintaining operational standards and fostering relationships with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of environmental sensitive operations/areas.
  • Report problems with pollution control equipment.
  • Arrange and track disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Collect samples of liquid and solid wastes for analysis.
  • Prepare periodic regulatory compliance reports.

Job description

* Perform daily, weekly, monthly, etc., inspections of various environmental sensitive operations/areas.

* Report any problems with pollution control equipment to maintenance and follow up to maintain equipment in good working order.

* Arrange and track the disposal of hazardous, solid, liquid wastes, and recyclable materials.

* Maintain hazardous waste manifests and track for return within the required regulatory timeframe.

* Collect samples of liquid and solid wastes for analysis.

* Maintain Amsted's required 3-year cycle on solid waste characteristic analysis.

* Prepare periodic regulatory compliance reports as required.

* Maintain regulatory-required plans as needed.

* Maintain monthly recordkeeping on GHG, Hazardous Waste, NPRI chemicals, utility usage, etc.

* Report, with the assistance of General Office personnel, accidental releases to the appropriate governmental agencies.

* Assist in regulatory inspections and environmental compliance audits, and follow up as required.

* Manage the Controlled Product Program.

* Maintain Chemical Ordering Procedures to control chemical usage in the facility.

* Maintain the MSDS database and review all MSDS for compliance with regulatory requirements.

* Attend environmental training sessions as necessary to maintain skills for primary functions.

* Identify environmental improvement opportunities and participate in implementing improvements. Research possible beneficial reuse opportunities for waste materials.

* Interact professionally with Manitoba Ministry representatives to foster and maintain sound relations.

* Understand applicable regulations and identify implications of any rule development or modification.

* Organize and maintain all necessary documentation for the above items.

* Book training sessions and maintain training programs.

* Maintain and manage the Document Control Program.

* Coordinate appointments for Crane Operator Medical and Visual, Inspector Visual.

* Assist the Safety department with day-to-day activities.

* Coordinate external testing (Air, Noise, etc.).

* Prepare training documents and presentations.

* Responsible for environmental orientation for employees and assist with contractor orientation as needed.

* Assist with document control.
