Job description

Environmental Technician Job Responsibilities
  1. Perform inspections of environmental sensitive operations/areas on a daily, weekly, monthly, etc. basis.
  2. Report issues with pollution control equipment to maintenance and follow up to ensure proper functioning.
  3. Arrange and track disposal of hazardous, solid, liquid wastes, and recyclable materials.
  4. Maintain hazardous waste manifests and ensure timely regulatory reporting.
  5. Collect samples of liquid and solid wastes for analysis.
  6. Maintain compliance with Amsted's 3-year cycle for solid waste characteristic analysis.
  7. Prepare periodic regulatory compliance reports as required.
  8. Maintain necessary regulatory plans.
  9. Keep monthly records on GHG emissions, Hazardous Waste, NPRI chemicals, utility usage, etc.
  10. Assist in reporting accidental releases to governmental agencies with the help of General Office personnel.
  11. Support regulatory inspections and environmental audits, including follow-up actions.
  12. Manage the Controlled Product Program.
  13. Maintain the Chemical Ordering Procedure to control chemical usage.
  14. Review and maintain MSDS database for regulatory compliance.
  15. Attend environmental training sessions to update skills.
  16. Identify environmental improvement opportunities and participate in implementation; research waste material reuse options.
  17. Interact professionally with Manitoba Ministry representatives to maintain good relations.
  18. Understand applicable regulations and monitor changes or modifications to rules.
  19. Organize and maintain documentation related to all responsibilities.
  20. Coordinate and book training sessions, and manage training programs.
  21. Maintain and manage the Document Control Program.
  22. Coordinate appointments for Crane Operator Medical and Visual, Inspector Visual tests.
  23. Assist the Safety department with daily activities.
  24. Coordinate external testing such as air and noise assessments.
  25. Prepare training materials and presentations.
  26. Conduct environmental orientation for employees and assist with contractor orientations.
  27. Assist with document control tasks.
