Environmental Technician Job Responsibilities
- Perform inspections of environmental sensitive operations/areas on a daily, weekly, monthly, etc. basis.
- Report issues with pollution control equipment to maintenance and follow up to ensure proper functioning.
- Arrange and track disposal of hazardous, solid, liquid wastes, and recyclable materials.
- Maintain hazardous waste manifests and ensure timely regulatory reporting.
- Collect samples of liquid and solid wastes for analysis.
- Maintain compliance with Amsted's 3-year cycle for solid waste characteristic analysis.
- Prepare periodic regulatory compliance reports as required.
- Maintain necessary regulatory plans.
- Keep monthly records on GHG emissions, Hazardous Waste, NPRI chemicals, utility usage, etc.
- Assist in reporting accidental releases to governmental agencies with the help of General Office personnel.
- Support regulatory inspections and environmental audits, including follow-up actions.
- Manage the Controlled Product Program.
- Maintain the Chemical Ordering Procedure to control chemical usage.
- Review and maintain MSDS database for regulatory compliance.
- Attend environmental training sessions to update skills.
- Identify environmental improvement opportunities and participate in implementation; research waste material reuse options.
- Interact professionally with Manitoba Ministry representatives to maintain good relations.
- Understand applicable regulations and monitor changes or modifications to rules.
- Organize and maintain documentation related to all responsibilities.
- Coordinate and book training sessions, and manage training programs.
- Maintain and manage the Document Control Program.
- Coordinate appointments for Crane Operator Medical and Visual, Inspector Visual tests.
- Assist the Safety department with daily activities.
- Coordinate external testing such as air and noise assessments.
- Prepare training materials and presentations.
- Conduct environmental orientation for employees and assist with contractor orientations.
- Assist with document control tasks.
