Job summary

Morgan Construction & Environmental Ltd. is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to support dynamic projects across Canada in heavy civil construction. You will lead safety initiatives, conduct orientations, and monitor protocols to ensure a strong safety culture.

The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of related experience and advanced knowledge of safety regulations. The role offers competitive compensation, a comprehensive benefits package, and a unique work lifestyle while traveling to various project locations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of recent experience as a Health and Safety Advisor in heavy civil construction.
  • Advanced knowledge of provincial OH&S regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver field-level orientations for employees and subcontractors.
  • Lead impactful safety meetings to set a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor work performance for adherence to safety practices.
  • Investigate incidents and ensure lessons learned are communicated.
  • Maintain awareness of potential hazards in the work environment.

Overview

At Morgan, we don’t just build projects, we build careers and futures! Join us as a HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISOR (HSE) and play a pivotal role in our dynamic world of heavy civil construction!

We are currently accepting applications to support multiple projects with our clients across Canada.

Rotation: Project dependent, most commonly 14/7, 21/7 or 20/10

Shift: 12 Hours (Days and Nights)

Travel: Project Dependent - Flights via approved travel hubs (where applicable) OR Drive in / Drive out

Lodging: Accommodations provided

Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Successful completion of Alcohol, Drug and Fit to Work Screening
  • Worker to provide:
    • Valid Safety Training tickets
      • CSO / BSO / CSTS-09/ OSSA Regional
      • Intermediate First Aid with CPR & AED
      • H2S Alive
      • Bear Awareness (In-Class)
    • Valid Driver’s License & 3 year abstract with 3 or less infractions
    • CSA Approved safety boots - minimum 6" high & fully laceable.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada if required.
All Morgan Field Based Workers and Equipment Operators must:
  • Be physically conditioned to repetitively and safely lift up to 50lbs.
  • Work a rotational schedule, 12 hours a day, for both day or night shifts as required.
  • Expect to handle noise and vibrations on the job.
  • Be prepared for and willing to perform additional labour duties as / when required.
  • Embrace the elements by working outdoors in all weather conditions. Whether it's rain, shine, or snow, you'll need to thrive in diverse weather environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging field-level orientations for employees and subcontractors.
  • Lead and participate in impactful safety meetings, setting the tone for a strong safety culture.
  • Serve as a role model for workers, demonstrating safety leadership and best practices.
  • Encourage teamwork and a positive attitude to promote safe work behaviors.
  • Monitor work performance to ensure adherence to Morgan’s Safe Work Practices and Procedures.
  • Collaborate with employees, supervisors, and management to identify and mitigate site hazards.
  • Perform worksite inspections, audits, and assessments, following up with coaching and support for corrective actions.
  • Identify trends and leading safety indicators, sharing insights with teams and management.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses with site teams and management, ensuring lessons learned are effectively communicated.
  • Communicate policies, practices, and updates to workers while staying informed of any changes from HSE leadership.
  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to enhance the safety management program and introducing industry best practices.
  • Travel extensively to various project locations as the “go‑to” safety resource.
  • Champion our safety culture by adhering to Morgan's Safe Work Procedures and PPE policies.
  • Maintain awareness of the surrounding environment and potential hazards, such as other equipment or personnel.
  • Demonstrate exceptional judgement and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrating versatility in collaborating effectively with team members and independently taking ownerships of tasks.
  • Operate 2-way radio
  • Other duties as / when assigned
Experience / Qualification Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent experience as a Health and Safety Advisor on heavy civil earthworks, construction, road building or mining project sites is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of provincial OH&S regulations and standards.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build positive relationships.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to handle competing priorities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Self‑motivated and independent, with the ability to show initiative and drive tasks to completion.
  • High school diploma (required) with relevant post‑secondary education (an asset).
