Job Title: Health and Safety Advisor
Job Description

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental integrity of project operations. The position is responsible for implementing and supporting project-specific HSE plans, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a strong background in occupational health and safety, capable of mentoring team members and driving continuous improvement in HSE performance.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and support the implementation of project-specific HSE plans, ensuring alignment with corporate policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Identify HSE training needs, develop customized training programs, and deliver engaging sessions to ensure workforce competency and awareness.
  • Roll out district-level HSE communication initiatives on-site to promote safety awareness and engagement.
  • Proactively recognize and evaluate potential hazards, providing expert advice on mitigation strategies and safe work practices.
  • Lead regular HSE inspections, assess the quality and effectiveness of safety plans, and ensure compliance with safety protocols across all trades.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the efficiency of emergency response plans, site-specific security protocols, and environmental management strategies.
  • Monitor and audit the HSE performance of trade contractors, ensuring adherence to project safety standards and corrective action implementation.
  • Participate in on-site incident investigations, analyze root causes, and evaluate the effectiveness of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering a shared commitment to safety.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to HSE Coordinators and other team members, promoting professional development and knowledge sharing.
Essential Skills
  • Five years of experience in a Health and Safety Officer role with significant experience in construction and commercial settings.
  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or CRST or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO).
  • Solid understanding of applicable Occupational Health and Safety and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills with the ability to problem-solve.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification.
  • COR (Certificate of Recognition) Internal Auditor Certificate.
  • Respirator Fit Tester Certificate.
  • Rigging Certificate.
  • Canadian Society of Safety Engineers – Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC).
Work Environment

The position is based at the new Prince Albert Victoria Hospital acute care tower construction site, located at 1200 - 24th Street West, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The project is valued at 1 billion dollars and is one year into a four-year construction timeline, with the structure expected to be complete in October. The work environment involves construction activities, including formwork systems, interior systems, and work at heights, within a design-build program. This role offers the chance to transition to permanent status and participate in new projects upon project completion. Benefits are provided, with a yearly salary review after the contract. Additionally, there is an opportunity to work on British Columbia's top road and civil projects.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $40.86/hr.
