Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is seeking a Health and Abilities Specialist to support case management of employees on short-term sick leave and long-term disability. The role includes developing return-to-work plans and accommodations and assisting supervisory staff with attendance management across teaching and non-teaching staff.

The position collaborates with health care providers, insurers and unions to manage claims and supports the implementation of attendance policies.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a related field such as human resources, occupational health, rehabilitation studies or acceptable equivalent.
  • Experience working with health care professionals, insurers, unions, and other third party service providers.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency using technologies such as MS Office, SAP, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management for employees on short-term sick leave and long-term disability, including development of return-to-work plans and accommodations.
  • Support supervisory staff and employees with attendance management, disability case management and sick leave absences.
  • Liaise with health care providers, insurers, unions and other third party service providers to manage claims.

Job description

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is the largest Centre for Education in Atlantic Canada with over 11,000 full-time, part-time and casual employees. Serving more than 60,000 students in 136 schools, our geographic region spans a 350 km radius.

The Health and Abilities Specialist plays a support role in case management of employees on short term sick leave and long term disability, including the development of return to work plans and accommodations, and supports supervisory staff and employees with attendance support, disability case management and sick leave absences. The Health and Abilities Specialist will liaise with supervisory staff, treatment providers, Long Term Disability carriers and unions to effectively manage claims for employees (teaching and non-teaching) who become ill during the course of their employment. The Health and Abilities Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of policies, processes and programs that promote and support employees in maintaining regular attendance at work. Working in a client service based environment, the Health and Abilities Specialist reports directly to the Manager, Health and Abilities.

Qualifications:

(a) University degree in a related field such as human resources, occupational health, rehabilitation studies or acceptable equivalent;

(b) Experience working with health care professionals, insurers, unions, and other third party service providers;

( c) Strong computer skills and proficiency using technologies such as MS Office, SAP, etc.

Salary:

This is a PEG (Professional Employees Group) position classified on the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework at Band 6 with a salary range between $62,040 - $77,550 annually. The Non Union Compensation Framework is available here
