Job description

Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the role of Healing Lodge Support Worker for the Southwest Healing Lodge. The primary role of the Healing Lodge Support Worker is to provide culturally appropriate holistic services for participants of the land-based healing program, ensuring high-quality, participant-centered services aligned with the organization's vision, mission, and philosophy.

The Southwest Healing Lodge offers day and residential addictions treatment for Indigenous peoples through land-based healing programming, with a focus on empowering families and addressing gender-based violence.

As Atlohsa continues to grow, flexibility and adaptability are essential.

Role and Responsibilities

Using a holistic Indigenous-led approach grounded in Harm Reduction and trauma-informed care, the Support Worker will deliver Indigenous land-based programs to residential participants, supporting healing from intergenerational trauma. Reporting to the Program Manager, responsibilities include delivering approved activities, following legislative and organizational policies, and utilizing traditional practices such as ceremonies, medicines, and teachings like the Seven Grandfather Teachings.

The role involves facilitating on-the-land overnight and day programs, requiring strong outdoor and camping skills, safety awareness, and the ability to lead ceremonies like healing circles and smudging. The Support Worker will also provide cultural understanding and intervention tailored to participants' needs.

Additional duties include:

  1. Completing documentation, reports, and case notes
  2. Collaborating with team members
  3. Maintaining safety and security
  4. Facilitating meals and searches when needed
  5. Dispensing medication following policies
  6. Coordinating healthcare services
  7. Delegating chores
  8. Maintaining confidentiality and exercising good judgment
  9. Travel as required
Suitability

Candidates should have:

  • A degree in social services, addictions, or related fields
  • Certifications like ICBOC or CCPC are assets
  • At least 3 years experience in mental health, group facilitation, or addictions treatment
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples affected by violence, homelessness, or mental health challenges
  • Knowledge of the Indian Residential School system and intergenerational trauma
  • Understanding of holistic healing practices, languages, and cultures of Southwestern Ontario Indigenous populations
  • Knowledge of colonial impacts on Indigenous communities
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of the First Nation Mental Wellness Continuum Framework and Native Wellness Assessment is an asset
  • Valid Ontario G-Class Driver’s License, First Aid/CPR, and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • For ICBOC certifications, three years of sobriety from substances is required
