Job description

The Healing Connections Project Coordinator is part of the Health Promotion and Wellness team at Kenora Chiefs Advisory. The Healing Connections Project Coordinator works with community partners in the eight KCA member First Nation communities to provide education and promote awareness and early intervention activities related to Gender Based Violence. The focus will be on topics such as; Healthy Relationships, Parenting Skills, Sexual Health, Recognizing and Responding to Gender Based Violence, Employment and Financial Skill Building. Connecting Youth and Elders to share traditional knowledge and promoting cultural sensitivity and awareness training are also goals of the project. All work to be done while respecting each community’s unique culture and protocols.

Position Title : Healing Connections Project Coordinator

Department : Health Promotion and Wellness

Salary : Dependent upon qualifications and successful probationary period

Reports to : Health Promotion Manager

Duties and Responsibilities :

Ø Connect with community partners to assess needs and identify community priorities

Ø Plan, organize and facilitate activities, events and workshops in the eight member communities

Ø Plan, organize and facilitate opportunities to bring Youth and Elders together for Knowledge Sharing and Intergenerational Dialogue and Support

Ø Assist community partners with accessing training opportunities and organizing education and awareness activities related to cultural sensitivity

Ø Build and maintain partnerships with First Nation health workers and other health care organizations

Ø Ensure accurate documentation of program activities

Ø Report progress of project goals to community partners and KCA Management

Ø Seek feedback from community partners and project participants

Ø Participate in KCA Health Promotion Team and organization activities as required

Ø Complete necessary research and create education materials and resources for service delivery

Ø Develop an annual work plan incorporating program goals and objectives

Ø Attend program-related meetings and training

Ø Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Ø Highly motivated with well-developed organizational skills and facilitation skills

Ø Ability to work independently and as a member of a health promotion team

Ø Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and leadership skills

Ø Trauma Informed and Culturally Sensitive

Education and / or Experience :

Ø Completion of a post-secondary program that relates to this field or an equivalent combination of training and experience

Ø Knowledge and understanding of Anishinaabe culture and protocols

Ø Knowledge and understanding of Colonialism and it’s impact on Anishinaabe of Treaty #3

Ø Experience working in a First Nation health organization

Additional Requirements :

Ø Valid driver’s license and vehicle;

Ø Must be willing to travel when required;
