Summary

The Header Operator is responsible for ensuring that heading machines are properly set up in order to ensure smooth production runs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares heading machine for operation, cleaning the machine, loading and unloading wire spools and changes draw dies.
  • Draws wire, sets-up punches, and cuts pins
  • Changes dies and sharpens or changes knives and quills
  • Adjusts the timing of blows and transfers.
  • Tests the machine operation during set up.
  • Fills machines with oil and greases machines.
  • Trouble shoots problems during runs, replacing pins, springs and worn tools.
  • Inspects product to complete quality checks on parts, measuring and recording dimensions.
  • Completes inspection reports.
  • Empties pans of parts to bins or replaces bins on conveyor machines.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Support and follow internal health & safety programs and protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma or higher.
  • 2-5 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certified forklift license is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Must have good math skills and an eye for detail.
  • Familiarity with tool and diemaking, and cold-heading process.
  • Ability to read blueprints is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of machine tools ie. Drill Press, Milling Machine etc.
  • Knowledge of SPC and ISO / QS 9000 is an asset
