The position of Studio Head and VFX Supervisor at Rodeo FX involves significant responsibility in managing various aspects of creation, production, and overall studio operations in Toronto. The role includes supervising the entire VFX production process, overseeing the artistic vision of projects, managing the VFX artist team, solving technical issues during production, and handling operational and financial aspects, including budgeting, resource planning, and coordination with clients and partners. The aim is to ensure the artistic quality and financial success of VFX projects while meeting deadlines and budgets.
Main Responsibilities :
Head of Studio :
- Manage daily studio operations, including staff supervision and budget management.
- Be involved in the internal development strategy for the Toronto office.
- Escalate technical and technological issues or any other concerns to the executive team.
- Ensure workplace health and safety compliance in collaboration with the HR manager and safety officer.
- Develop and maintain operational policies and procedures for efficient studio management.
- Work closely with department heads to ensure effective resource utilization and transparent communication.
- Maintain regular communication with other Rodeo FX studios to ensure policy and procedural consistency.
- Participate in marketing and recruitment initiatives to attract new talent.
- Encourage a culture of collaboration and information sharing within the studio team.
- Manage large-scale projects while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting deadlines.
- Handle the studio’s financial aspects, including budget preparation and cost management for each project.
- Oversee production planning, including deadline coordination and priority management.
- Manage production quality, including quality assurance and continuous improvement of production processes.
- Handle human resource management, including scheduling, performance evaluation, and career development of employees.
- Represent Rodeo FX and the Toronto studio at events.
- Maintain regular communication flow with the executive team.
- Lead the creation of a strategy and overall vision to be applied throughout the VFX project, ensuring the best creative and technical approach to meet client needs.
- Collaborate with the VFX Producer and Executive Producer to develop bids for new projects.
- Communicate the creative vision and objectives to the team, ensuring individual and collective responsibility for results.
- Find creative ways to ensure the clients' artistic vision is respected and projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining high Rodeo FX standards. Regularly update the VFX Producer on progress.
- Closely monitor the overall creative process by conducting daily reviews of 3D assets and shots, providing regular feedback and guidance to the team. Assist the team in solving production issues. Transfer materials and information from clients to artists and the VFX team.
- Be present on set during VFX shoots as required by production.
- Collaborate with the VFX Producer to ensure all assigned projects have a well-defined production schedule, adequate and appropriate resources, performance goals, and key milestone dates.
- Maintain regular communication with clients about project progress, ensuring a positive and collaborative working relationship.
- Collaborate with the VFX Producer to regularly evaluate project budgets, address any discrepancies with production, and find creative solutions to stay on schedule and budget.
- Actively monitor the team’s work environment, taking steps to foster a positive workplace and adherence to company values.
- Review mid-project and post-mortem evaluations, identify areas for improvement, and ensure all issues are resolved for future projects.
- Stay updated on the latest technological advancements and working methods in the VFX industry.
- Positively represent Rodeo FX within the VFX and related communities, both locally and globally, to reinforce the company's reputation as an industry leader. This may include attending conferences, participating in panels, and actively engaging in industry events.
Qualifications
Job Requirements :
- 10 years of relevant experience in visual effects.
- 10 years of successful team and project management experience.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- In-depth knowledge of the latest technologies and techniques used in the visual effects industry.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to understand the creative and technical requirements of each project.
- Extensive knowledge of film production and post-production.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Strong management skills and the ability to maintain a positive team environment.
- Autonomy, action orientation, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
