Job summary

Voith Hydro in Brossard, QC seeks a Director, Procurement & Strategic Sourcing to lead our procurement function, shaping category strategies, supplier partnerships and governance for major capital projects.

The role requires 10+ years in procurement, 5+ years leading teams, strong ERP experience (SAP/Oracle/IFS/MDynamics), and fluency in French and English to operate across North America.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Commerce, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional designation such as SCMP, CPSM, CPSD, CIPS, PMP, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive procurement and supply chain experience.
  • Minimum 5 years leading procurement teams in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with engineered-to-order (ETO), project-based manufacturing, EPC, or capital equipment industries.
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic sourcing and category management initiatives.
  • Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and long-term supplier contracts.
  • Experience supporting project procurement within a matrix organization.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, IFS, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency in both French and English in order to interact effectively at all levels of the organization, both within Quebec and outside Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the procurement organization, including Commodity Buyers and Strategic Sourcing Managers.
  • Provide functional leadership, coaching, and governance to Project Procurement Managers.
  • Establish procurement policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
  • Develop organizational capability through coaching, mentoring, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Lead procurement transformation initiatives and continuous process improvements.
  • Develop and execute category management strategies across direct and indirect spend.
  • Analyze spend patterns and identify opportunities for cost reduction and supplier consolidation.
  • Develop sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead supplier segmentation and supplier portfolio management.
  • Establish long-term sourcing plans to improve supply continuity and competitiveness.
  • Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) improvements through strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Monitor commodity markets and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Develop strategic relationships with key suppliers.
  • Lead supplier selection, qualification, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Conduct executive supplier business reviews.
  • Implement supplier scorecards and performance improvement programs.
  • Lead supplier development initiatives to improve quality, delivery, innovation, and responsiveness.
  • Resolve supplier performance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for strategic suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, commercial conditions, warranties, service agreements, and long-term contracts.
  • Review and approve commercial terms and procurement recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and contractual requirements.
  • Partner with Legal on commercial agreements and contractual risk management.
  • Support Project Procurement Managers during project planning and execution.
  • Provide procurement leadership for major capital projects and customer programs.
  • Review procurement execution plans for large projects.
  • Participate in procurement strategy development during project pursuits.
  • Assist in resolving complex commercial issues and supplier disputes.
  • Support project risk assessments and mitigation planning.
  • Ensure procurement activities align with project schedules and customer commitments.
  • Establish governance for RFQs, bid evaluations, supplier selection, purchase order management, contract administration, and procurement reporting.
  • Standardize procurement processes across the organization.
  • Ensure procurement compliance with company policies, ethical sourcing standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive procurement digitalization and ERP process improvements.
  • Improve procurement efficiency through automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop enterprise supplier risk management strategies.
  • Monitor supply market conditions and geopolitical risks.
  • Implement supplier business continuity plans.
  • Develop dual sourcing and contingency sourcing strategies.

Position Summary:

The Director, Procurement & Strategic Sourcing is responsible for leading the organization's procurement function, providing strategic direction and operational leadership across category management, strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, project procurement, and procurement governance.
