Head of Affiliate and Broker Dealer Liquidity and Funding

Reporting to the Treasurer of BMO Capital Markets, the Head of Affiliate and Broker Dealer Liquidity and Funding will be responsible for managing liquidity, funding and associated regulatory capital for registered broker dealers in CM while helping drive optimization initiatives to support accretive performance and client outcomes. Entities covered would include Nesbit Burns Incorporated (“NBI”) and BMO Capital Markets Corporation (“CMC”)

The Director will:

  • Partner with Broker Dealer CFOs to manage balance sheet from a liquidity, capital and funding perspective.
  • Own the market risk governed liquidity and funding risk limits for each of the broker dealer entities, with delegation responsibility to the business lines as needed.
  • Coordinate with the CM Treasury Liquidity, Funding and Balance Sheet Optimization team to create the right monitoring, tools and management framework to help feed into the broader GM, CM and enterprise measures.
  • Collaborate on the review of policies associated with overall LOB governance, liquidity, capital and interest rate risk management.
  • Own the Funding and Liquidity Plans for NBI and CMC, in coordination with the CM Treasury Liquidity, Funding and Balance Sheet optimization team, as well as the US Treasurer where appropriate.
  • Engage with regulators as needed to ensure transparent communication and adherence to regulatory requirements and expectations relating to liquidity, capital management and planning, performance measurement, and the business activities of CM.
  • Collaborate with businesses and functional areas to ensure prudent business practices, including evaluation of new business initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ experience in finance, liquidity and funding, ideally with Global Markets background in trading, financing or structuring.
  • Educational background in Mathematics or Engineering a plus
  • Proven leadership and partnership skills and be able to engage at a senior level with internal stakeholder partners, senior management as well as with regulators.
  • Well organized, driven, and have a business ownership mindset being able to balance the safety and soundness of the broker dealer entities while being a partner to the business lines to help support accretive returns and optimization.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to effectively resolve/manage problems and competing priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of a dealer balance sheet, capital, and liquidity.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, with the ability to correspond with multiple levels of management, business lines, stakeholder partners and regulators.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to effectively resolve/manage problems and competing priorities.
  • Collaborative, and be able to create space and opportunities for dialogue and challenge.
  • Be a continual student of the market and the surrounding competitive environment to pick up and take advantage of trends that would support their mandate.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
