Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) invites applications for a Speech and Language Therapist focused on adult dysphagia and head & neck oncology within the Head & Neck/Oncology service at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. In this role you’ll assess, diagnose and manage complex swallowing and communication disorders alongside the MDT in acute and outpatient settings.

You will contribute to CPD, supervision of SLTs and students, and training across departments, with opportunities in

Qualifications

  • Holds Speech & language therapy degree or equivalent leading to statutory HCPC registration
  • Requires CPD to maintain HCPC registration in NHS practice
  • CPD portfolio evidences training to keep up with best practice
  • Has dysphagia training and relevant post‑training experience
  • Knowledge of assessment and therapeutic tools relevant to patient group
  • Aware of national policies and procedures and audit principles
  • Awareness of roles of other professionals relevant to the patient group
  • Demonstrates annual mandatory training (CPR, Moving and Handling, Fire Safety)
  • Develops coping skills and strategies for clinical work

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for all aspects of own work including direct and indirect patient care within scope of practice
  • Assesses capacity and seeks valid consent, considering Adults with Incapacity legislation
  • Provides clinical diagnoses based on knowledge across specialist areas
  • Offers specialist advice within the MDT to inform decisions
  • Plans and implements care programmes and discharge decisions from SLT caseload
  • Liaises with a senior SLT for management of a specialist ER caseload
  • Contributes to SLT student placements under supervision
  • Delivers training within SLT department and specialty teams
  • Explains SLT roles to visitors, students and volunteers
