Job summary

Simon Fraser University is seeking a Head Coach for Strength and Conditioning who will lead a high-performance training program for varsity athletes. This role focuses on developing training protocols, optimizing athlete performances, and ensuring the welfare of student-athletes. Ideal candidates will have a strong educational background in Sports Science and relevant coaching certifications, along with proven experience in athlete program development.

Qualifications

  • NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Certification.
  • Strong collaboration with varsity head coaches.

Simon Fraser University (SFU), a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II institution and a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), invites qualified candidates to apply for the full-time position of Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning. The SFU Strength and Conditioning program is a high-performance program that trains and supports student-athletes from 16 NCAA Division II varsity sports sponsored by SFU.
About The Role

The Head Coach, Strength and Conditioning is under the general supervision of the Associate Director, Student Athlete Services. The role involves leading the development of the SFU Strength and Conditioning program to achieve the objectives that are consistent with the department. Establishing positive relationships with the department staff and other university departments and faculties is essential for success. The position includes providing guidance and support to student-athletes towards achieving their athletic potential. Ensuring the health, safety, integrity, and education welfare of student-athletes is a key responsibility. Additionally, it requires adherence to the procedures, policies and best practices established by Simon Fraser University, SFU Athletics and Recreation and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education or related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience working with high performance athletes. NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Certification with valid membership with NSCA or Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology – Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or equivalent.

  • Works with varsity head coaches to design, implement, coach, supervise and monitor strength and conditioning programs for all varsity teams.
  • Responsible for planning, designing and periodization of strength and conditioning programs for all teams.
  • Collaborate with head varsity coaches to schedule strength and conditioning workouts for each team for each semester.
  • Coordinates student-athlete rehabilitation with SFU Sports Medicine staff; assists with rehabilitation of injured athletes and works with team doctor/athletic therapists and respective head coach regarding appropriate return to play.
  • Provide expertise in strength training and physical conditioning.
