Qualifications

  • Must have 6 months relevant experience in residential youth care or forensic psychiatric work.
  • Current CPR certificate required.
  • Experience in behaviour management with adolescents preferred.

Job description

The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services team is an established group committed to providing essential mental health services to young people involved in the justice system. This multi-disciplinary team works closely with probation services community agencies and contracted service providers as well as Youth Custody Services staff to deliver Court-ordered assessments. Join us in making a significant impact by supporting youth who are navigating complex legal and mental health challenges.

The Role

In this role you will provide direct care and supervise youth in a secure forensic psychiatric unit. You will support daily activities nutrition and hygiene while participating in psychiatric treatment and crisis intervention. By ensuring the safety of residents staff and visitors you will significantly impact the well-being of detained youth needing specialized care. This position offers the chance to provide crucial mental health services to youth experiencing behavioral issues addictions and mental health challenges making it an exciting and rewarding opportunity for candidates passionate about making a difference.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements :

  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent and must have post-secondary credit courses such as : community mental health worker behavioural sciences child and youth care child care counselling social work psychology or nursing etc.
  • Must have 6 months relevant experience in residential youth care security mental health or forensic psychiatric related work.
  • Must have current certificate in CPR.
  • An equivalent combination of experience education and / or training may be considered.

Preference May be Given to Applicants with :

  • Experience with CIPR (Crisis Intervention and Physical Restraints) or equivalent training.
  • Certificate or diploma in community mental health work behavioural sciences child and youth care child care counselling social work psychology or nursing or equivalent.
  • Experience in behaviour management with adolescents.

Willingness Statements :

  • Must be able to work in close proximity to potentially aggressive violent or otherwise unpredictable youth.

This is a shift work position and applicants must be able to work a combination of days evenings and nights.
