Job summary

The London Clinic is looking for a Healthcare Assistant (Band 3) to join the Orthopaedics and Spinal Ward. You will support patients with personal care, mobility and daily needs, helping them recover after surgery in a busy hospital environment.

You will work a 37.5 hour week on a rotating shift pattern covering days and nights, with a permanent contract. A focus on dignity, confidentiality and teamwork is essential as you help maintain a safe, clean ward and monitor patients’ wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience as Healthcare Assistant on an acute surgical ward.
  • Experience caring for patients before or after surgery.
  • Experience helping patients with personal care and mobility.
  • Confidence completing and recording clinical observations.
  • Ability to notice changes in a patient’s condition and report them quickly.
  • Kind, patient and respectful approach to care.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and organised in a busy ward.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, infection prevention and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Help patients with washing, dressing, toileting and other personal care while protecting their dignity.
  • Support patients to move, change position and walk safely as they recover from surgery.
  • Help patients with eating and drinking to support their health and recovery.
  • Check and record temperature, pulse, blood pressure, breathing rate, oxygen levels and fluid balance.
  • Tell the registered nurse immediately if you notice a change in a patient's condition.
  • Listen to patients and provide reassurance when they are in pain, worried or less independent.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Keep patient information private and secure.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe and well organised ward.
  • Follow infection prevention and patient safety procedures.
  • Use equipment safely and report any faults.
  • Complete tasks given to you by a registered nurse when you have the correct training and skills.
  • Attend training and keep your knowledge and skills up to date.
