Rapid Response Industrial Group Ltd. is a leading provider of hazardous materials management, emergency response, and industrial cleaning services across Western Canada and Ontario. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, we pride ourselves on rapid deployment, safety excellence, and supporting critical industries including oil & gas, transportation, and environmental services. We’re growing our team and are currently seeking a skilled and safety-focused Hazmat Technician to join our frontline response unit.

Position Overview

As a Hazmat Technician, you’ll be on the front lines of emergency response and hazardous materials handling. This role involves site containment, decontamination, transportation of hazardous waste, and ensuring full regulatory compliance. Ideal candidates are motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to safety under pressure. You will be based out of our Calgary, Alberta location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to hazardous materials spills, incidents, and industrial cleanup projects
  • Perform containment, neutralization, and decontamination of hazardous substances
  • Safely handle, label, and transport hazardous waste materials per TDG and provincial regulations
  • Operate and maintain specialized response equipment and PPE
  • Accurately complete safety checklists, inspection reports, and incident documentation
  • Collaborate with emergency services and regulatory authorities when required
  • Participate in regular safety training, drills, and on-call rotations

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • NFPA 472 Technician Level certification or equivalent (required)
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence (Class 3 with air brake and TDG endorsement preferred)
  • 1+ year of experience in hazardous materials, emergency response, or industrial cleaning
  • Physically capable of working in demanding environments and wearing full PPE including SCBA
  • Strong understanding of health & safety procedures and emergency protocols
  • Flexible schedule with availability for after-hours and on-call work
  • Willing to travel as required
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen

Preferred Assets

  • Post-secondary training in Environmental Science, OH&S, or related fields
  • Certifications in confined space entry, fall protection, and First Aid/CPR
  • NFPA 1001 (Firefighter I & II), NFPA 1002 (Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator), and NFPA 1081 (Industrial Fire Brigade Member) certifications
  • Experience in oil & gas, waste management, or transportation sectors
  • Knowledge of Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) and TDG regulations
