Job Description

WSP’s Occupational Hygiene and Safety (OHS) team is seeking a Hazardous Materials Practice Lead and Project Manager for our growing hazardous materials practice in British Columbia. The successful candidate will work within our broader Occupational Health and Safety team and engage with national and international professional networks. Our hazardous materials practice includes inspections, surveys, abatement, and demolition support for asbestos, PCBs, metals, microbial growth, and other regulated materials. The practice has an expanding clientele and staff. WSP does not directly perform hazardous materials abatement services.

Responsibilities

  • Managing hazardous materials and microbial assessments, including abatement oversight.
  • Leading the practice, managing client accounts, and business development.
  • Training and mentoring team members.
  • Advising clients on hazardous material abatement requirements.
  • Leading hazardous material assessments or abatement in large projects.
  • Overseeing the preparation and review of management plans and specifications.
  • Preparing reports, programs, and proposals.
  • Collaborating on quality standards and procedures.
  • Supporting regional and national practice initiatives.
  • Potentially serving on the WSP Asbestos Safety Board.
  • Staying updated on industry standards and legislation, and communicating these effectively.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related fields.
  • 10+ years of experience in hazardous materials, especially large-scale asbestos projects.
  • Experience in client account management and project management in consulting.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to technical excellence.
  • Experience managing technical staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent knowledge of regulations, standards, and protocols.
  • Ability to understand and create specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel up to two weeks per month.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain security clearances and work legally in Canada.

Compensation

Salary range in British Columbia : $102,100 - $140,400 . Final salary depends on qualifications, experience, and organizational needs. Salary range may change for business reasons.
