Job Title: Haul Truck Operator
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Equipment Operation
  • Safe and efficient operations of a 150-ton haul truck in an open-pit mining environment.
Equipment Maintenance and Inspection
  • Perform pre-operational checks on equipment.
  • Clean, grease, and refill fluids in equipment as required.
  • Assist maintenance techs, fuel/lube techs, and others as needed to keep equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep equipment cabs clean and orderly.
Safety and Compliance
  • Uphold and embody Skeena Gold + Silver’s safety standards.
  • Adhere to all safety standards, regulations, and rules as applicable.
  • Attend and participate in pre-shift safety meetings.
  • Participate in any site-specific training.
Administrative and Reporting Tasks
  • Complete shift paperwork as required including FLHAs (Field Level Hazard Assessments), JHAs (Job Hazard Analyses), equipment inspection sheets, and load sheets.
Other Duties
  • Perform all other duties as reasonably assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience operating a 150-ton-plus-sized haul truck in an open-pit, hard-rock mining environment.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Strong commitment to promoting and maintaining a strong Health and Safety Culture.
  • Experience or demonstrated capability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment is required.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimal supervision.
Experience / Skills
  • Direct experience operating haul trucks in a mining environment.
  • Pre-trip inspection knowledge.
  • Ability to take direction from a loading and dumping tool.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with a two-way radio.
  • Understanding of the right-of-way rules on haul roads.
  • Detail-oriented with excessive attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective team player who can jump in wherever needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others.
  • Experience working in a remote mining camp.
  • Experience with dispatch systems is an asset.
Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation. The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy. There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected hourly rate for this position is CAD $32 - CAD $40, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
