Job Title: Senior Supervisor

Reporting directly to the General Foreperson, the Senior Supervisor is a key operational leader responsible for providing elevated technical oversight, field leadership, and hands‑on equipment expertise across heavy civil and earthworks operations. The position bridges the gap between Field Supervisors and the General Foreperson, supporting the execution of operational plans while driving the training, development, and performance improvement of Field Supervisors, Lead Operators, and Operators.

The Senior Supervisor is responsible for supporting safe, efficient, and high‑quality field execution, providing technical guidance on earthworks, tailings dam construction, environmental controls, water management systems, and civil works, and ensuring supervisory standards are consistently maintained.

Responsibilities (including But Not Limited To)

Leadership, Training & Workforce Development

• Mentor, coach, and train Field Supervisors and Lead Operators to improve technical competency, leadership capability, and overall performance.
• Conduct skills assessments and work with the General Foreperson to identify gaps in supervisory knowledge, equipment operation proficiency, safety leadership, and field decision-making.
• Develop and deliver structured on-the-job training related to equipment operation, earthworks best practices, safety leadership, and crew management.
• Provide corrective coaching and support improvement plans for underperforming supervisors.
• Lead by example in professionalism, communication, accountability, and safety culture.

Operational Oversight & Field Execution

• Support and oversee daily field activities across multiple work fronts, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
• Provide technical guidance on earthworks, tailings dam construction, environmental controls, water management systems, and civil works.
• Assist Field Supervisors with troubleshooting equipment, scheduling, production challenges, and interpretation of drawings.
• Step in to operate heavy equipment when required, demonstrating proper techniques and establishing performance standards.
• Ensure accurate reporting on progress, manpower, equipment utilization, and production.

Safety, Quality & Technical Assurance

• Promote and enforce mine site safety standards, company procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Lead or support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked.
• Conduct field inspections and hazard assessments and coach supervisors on hazard identification, crew communication, and safe work practices.
• Ensure work is completed in accordance with design, specifications, drawings, and project quality standards.
• Work with supervisors, engineers, and project management to identify and resolve field issues and implement corrective measures.

Planning, Coordination & Communication

• Assist the General Foreperson in planning daily and weekly work fronts, allocating resources, and forecasting project demands.
• Ensure Field Supervisors understand project scopes, drawings, schedules, priorities, and operational expectations.
• Communicate technical and operational requirements clearly to supervisors, operators, leadhands, subcontractors, and project management.
• Support consistent operational standards, documentation, reporting, and procedures across work fronts.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment utilization, productivity, and overall field performance.

Additional Responsibilities

• All other duties as reasonably assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications

• Valid Mine Supervisor Certificate is required and the ability and commitment to obtain a BC Mines Shift Boss Certificate within six months of commencing the position.
• Must possess a Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s Licence is considered an asset.
• Valid First Aid Certification is required.

Experience / Skills

• 12–15+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, large earthworks, or mining operations.
• 7–10+ years of experience operating heavy equipment, including graders, dozers, excavators, loaders, or similar equipment, with advanced proficiency.
• 5+ years of supervisory experience overseeing crews, equipment, or multi-discipline field activities.
• Advanced knowledge of earthworks, tailings dams, environmental controls, water management systems, and civil infrastructure construction.
• Strong ability to read and interpret IFC drawings and communicate technical requirements clearly to field personnel.
• Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment at an advanced level and provide hands‑on coaching and training to others.
• Proven experience coaching, mentoring, and developing employees, with strong leadership and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Strong understanding of production tracking, cost control, equipment utilization, and efficient resource allocation.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with the ability to respond effectively to changing field conditions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site‑based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.

Compensation

The expected hourly rate for this position is CAD $60, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
