Job summary

CAAN Communities, Alliances & Networks is seeking a Harm Reduction Coordinator on a temporary contract basis. This remote role involves collaboration with communities throughout Canada and focuses on harm reduction initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in Indigenous Ways of Knowing and harm reduction principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage workshops and training. A post-secondary education or relevant experience is required. Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants and those with experience related to HIV and HCV.

About this position

CAAN Communities, Alliances & Networks (CAAN) is looking to hire a Harm Reduction Coordinator on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will work closely with our National Partner to bring research to life in a dynamic way. You will collaborate across Canada with communities and service providers.

CAAN is a national, Indigenous organization who is leading the response to HIV and AIDS through empowerment, education and community. Our organization is culturally grounded and operates through Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Doing (IWKD).

Work Location: This is a remote position, located anywhere in Canada.

This is a contractor, temporary opportunity.

The successful candidate for this position will:

• Have experience in Indigenous Ways of Knowing & Doing
• Be experienced in Knowledge Transfer & Mobilization
• Be a collaborative leader with experience facilitating community and academic groups
• Possess strong experience in community consultation and research
• Have a passion for Harm Reduction
• Have the ability to plan, develop and delivery presentations/workshops
• Be highly self‑motivated

Key Tasks:

• Prepare and submit monthly reports and effectively contribute to quarterly reports by working closely with CAAN’s evaluator.
• Develop and update a harm reduction asset map from data and insights gathered from community partners and individuals.
• Oversee the logistics of creating harm reduction workshops that may be held virtually and in-person.
• Attend quarterly internal meetings and external meetings with our partners to discuss any emerging topics or issues within the Harm Reduction space.
• Collaboratively identify findings for training development and program delivery
• Identify and engage with organizations across the country to participate in tailored capacity‑building training.
• Create a database to evaluate and monitor program delivery and findings, including record keeping
• Administrative and logistic support for the Indigenous consultants implementing training delivery
• Sharing lessons learned through reports, social media posts, or workshop/presentations.
• Support the development of Indigenous harm reduction materials within CAAN (i.e. with other staff on resources, projects, research, or policies)

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience:

• Post‑secondary education, or a combination of training and experience in a relevant field.
• Deep and meaningful understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Doing as well as harm reduction principles.
• Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and internal and external stakeholders.
• Well‑developed planning, organizing, evaluation and administrative skills.
• Ability to maintain a person‑centered approach to planning and problem solving, while upholding program deliverables, best practice and adherence to policy and legislation.
• Demonstrated experience in workplan development and implementation.
• Experience working with diverse Indigenous communities.
• An understanding of Harm Reduction concepts.
• Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office365 platform, as well as web‑based applications including search engines and tools.
