We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented General Accountant to manage the day-to-day financial operations and reporting of the organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance and effect support for decision making.

Position Title : General Accountant

Department : Finance

Reporting To : Controller

Employment Type : Full-time, 35 hours per week

Compensation : Annual salary of $60,000 to $75,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package

Location : Toronto

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and monthly financial statements.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing, receipts, and payment tracking.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with departmental leads.
  • Support the year-end audit process, including preparation of working papers and liaising with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and CRA requirements for charitable organizations.
  • Monitor and report on restricted and unrestricted funding, grants, and donations.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.
  • Perform other tasks of a similar nature as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and fund accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar, Business Central experience would be preferred) and Microsoft Excel and Teams required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. Non-Canadian applicants must have a valid employment Visa and / or proper documentation authorizing their eligibility to work in Canada on a full-time, ongoing basis.
