Work Site: New Westminster, BC

Locations: 502 Columbia Street (main hub), 40 Begbie Street, 422 Sixth Street

Salary: $25.00

Hours: 21-28 hours per week

The Opportunity

We are seeking a diligent and committed Handyman to join our team and support the maintenance and upkeep of our three agency buildings in New Westminster. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied role, values community service, and takes pride in keeping facilities safe and welcoming

What You’ll Do

  • General Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine and minor repairs across all three buildings, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, electrical, and HVAC tasks.
  • Lighting & Electrical: Inspect, replace, and maintain lighting fixtures to ensure all areas are well-lit and safe.
  • Waste Management: Organize the disposal of waste and recycling bins from all buildings, ensuring timely and proper waste removal.
  • Grounds & Exterior Care: Maintain cleanliness of building exteriors, including removing graffiti, picking up litter, washing parking lot corridors, and keeping walkways clear of debris, needles, and weeds. Pressure wash entries and walkways as needed.
  • Furniture & Equipment: Assist with moving and setting up furniture and equipment as required by staff or for special events.
  • Roof & Drain Maintenance: Inspect designated building roofs at least twice a year, especially before the rainy season, to clear debris and ensure roof drains are unobstructed.
  • Safety & Reporting: Identify and report any major repair needs or safety hazards to management promptly.
  • Emergency & Miscellaneous Tasks: Respond to urgent maintenance requests and undertake additional duties as assigned to support the smooth operation of all facilities.

  • Ability to safely perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving heavy items
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Well-organized with effective troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

  • Valid First Aid Certificate (Basic Emergency First Aid with CPR-A or equivalent)
