Job description

Transdev Canada is seeking dedicated and compassionate HandyDART Drivers to join our Victoria team.

As a HandyDART Driver, you will provide essential transportation services for individuals with disabilities and mobility challenges, ensuring their safety, comfort, and dignity. Your role:

  • Passenger Assistance: Safely and courteously assist passengers with boarding, securing mobility devices, and disembarking from the vehicle.
  • Safe Operation: Operate HandyDART vehicles following all traffic regulations, company safety protocols, and accessible transportation standards.
  • Route Adherence: Follow assigned routes and schedules, making stops at designated locations to ensure passengers' timely arrival at their destinations.
  • Safety and Sensitivity: Provide a safe, respectful, and empathetic environment for passengers, addressing their specific needs and concerns.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any defects or maintenance issues to the maintenance team.

Your profile:

  • You have a valid Class 4 Unrestricted driver's license or equivalent (If you have a Class 5, Class 3 or Class 4 Restricted, please visit ICBC and get your learners permit prior to applying).
  • You have a clean driving record.
  • You have strong customer service skills and empathy for passengers with disabilities.
  • You can operate accessible transportation equipment and secure mobility devices.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • You must be able to pass drug and alcohol testing and background checks.
  • Prior experience in passenger transportation, especially with individuals with disabilities, is an asset.
  • This is a casual, unionized position in Victoria, BC.
  • There are about 20-25 hours/week.
  • HandyDART Bus Drivers must be available for five full days a week (assigned two consecutive days off).
  • Early, split & late shifts may be required.
