Job summary

Byteager in Toronto, ON is seeking a Technical Lead to guide one of our core engineering teams. This is a senior leadership role with hands-on engineering about 70% time and leadership 30%, shaping architecture, code reviews, and collaboration with clients.

You’ll lead architecture for major client engagements, mentor engineers, run technical interviews, and represent the team in design reviews and external talks. On-site in Toronto with equity and a competitive CAD salary.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with production systems.
• 3+ years in technical leadership roles (staff/principal).
• Strong full-stack or systems engineering background.
• Proven ability to design scalable, maintainable architectures.
• Experience conducting technical interviews and growing senior engineers.
• Excellent communication with clients, executives, and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical architecture for one to two major client engagements simultaneously.
• Make and document architecture decisions balancing simplicity, scalability, and delivery timeline.
• Conduct rigorous code reviews and set the quality bar for the team through your own work.
• Run weekly 1:1s with each engineer on your team focused on growth, blockers, and career trajectory.
• Lead technical interviews — design sessions, code reviews, and final-round architecture discussions.
• Mentor engineers at all levels through pairing, code review, design feedback, and career coaching.
• Partner with project managers on scope, timeline, and resourcing decisions for your team's projects.
• Represent the team in client-facing design reviews and technical decision conversations.
