Job summary

ALDO Group in Montreal seeks a Handbag Designer to shape the global collection from trend research to development. You will translate concepts into hand and technical sketches, produce detailed specs, and build a library of resources for seasonal lines.

You will travel to expand knowledge of design and sourcing, partner with Product Development, and present trends at quarterly meetings. Strong CAD/Illustrator skills and color/material knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion, Industrial or related design fields.
  • Minimum 3 years handbag design experience with strong silhouettes knowledge.
  • Strong visual translation of fashion trends into designs.
  • Solid technical knowledge of handbag construction and CADs.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create CADs and mock ups.
  • Able to sketch free-hand and work to deadlines.
  • Strong grasp of color forecasting, palettes and materials.
  • Excellent teamwork and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and interpret current global market fashion trends into viable ranges for the global collection.
  • Translate ideas into hand and technical sketches.
  • Produce all technical specifications on designs (hardware, pattern, shape, size, etc).
  • Create and maintain a library of seasonally relevant design resources.
  • Travel to enhance knowledge of design, trend, sourcing, and fashion retail market.
  • Work closely with Product Development team in developing new lines.
  • Collaborate with footwear team to ensure store-level consistency.
  • Present trends and key items at quarterly meetings.
  • Maintain inspiration and key item boards in workspace.

Overview

The Handbag Designer will be integral in building the Handbag collections for ALDO and ALDO Accessories stores. Through trend research and collaboration with the merchandise and development teams, the handbag designer will develop new designs from concept to development, to be featured in the Aldo Division’s global collection.

  • Translate ideas into hand and technical sketches
  • Produce all technical specifications on designs (hardware, pattern, shape, size, etc)
  • Create and maintain a library of seasonally relevant design and product resources
  • Travel to enhance knowledge of design, trend, sourcing, and fashion retail market
  • Work closely with Product Development team in developing new lines
  • Collaborate with footwear team to ensure consistency at the store level
  • Present trends and key items at quarterly meetings
  • Maintain inspiration and key item boards in workspace
Requirements
  • University Degree in Fashion, Industrial or other related design fields
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in handbag design with strong knowledge of key handbag silhouettes
  • Highly attuned to fashion trends with the ability to translate them visually
  • Strong technical knowledge of handbag construction
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to create CADs and mock ups
  • Able to sketch free-hand
  • Solid understanding of color forecasting/trending, color palettes and materials
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Capable to meet multiple deadlines in a timely manner
  • Excellent team player with great initiative
