Job description

McInnes Cooper is currently seeking an experienced Litigation Lawyer to join our thriving team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This is an excellent opportunity to advance your legal career while leveraging your expertise to handle various interesting and sophisticated matters. The litigation and insurance practice groups provide services in all areas, including property and casualty, commercial lines, and policy interpretation. Lawyers in these groups regularly appear at all levels of court in the Atlantic Provinces, as well as in the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada. The team also represents clients in administrative and regulatory tribunals, arbitrations, and mediations.

As a Litigation Lawyer, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing your own files and working alongside other litigation team members;
  • Providing legal services across a broad range of areas, including general/civil litigation, commercial litigation, estate litigation, insurance defense, and construction/engineering litigation;
  • Communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, and opposing counsel to ensure positive outcomes;
  • Analyzing complex legal issues and offering strategic advice; and,
  • Representing clients in court, at hearings, and in negotiations.

The successful candidate will possess the following skill set:

  • A minimum of 4 to 7 years of litigation experience in one or more of the following areas: general/civil litigation, commercial litigation, estate litigation, insurance defense, and construction/engineering litigation;
  • Strong analytical, organizational and leadership skills;
  • Exceptional client-focused approach with effective interpersonal and communication abilities;
  • Ability to leverage technological skills and established procedures and processes;
  • Proven ability to manage time efficiently and handle multiple files; and,
  • A strong drive to succeed in a fast-paced and client-focused environment.
