Under the direction of the Director, Volunteer Services, the Hairdresser will provide hair services to a diverse inpatient population of patients and clients at both Providence Care Hospital and Providence Transitional Care Centre. The Hairdresser will demonstrate the Mission, Vision, Values and Ethics of Providence Care Hospital in each interaction.
Education And Experience
- Current Hair Stylist Certification
- One (1) year of recent experience with hair styling and design techniques
- Knowledge of hair and scalp conditions common in healthcare patients, preferred
- Basic knowledge of mental health conditions and how they impact communication and behavior, preferred
- Experience working in a healthcare environment considered an asset
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides full-service hairstyling and personal grooming services by appointment in the Hair Salon or by pre-arranged schedule on inpatient and/or secure units
- Provides recommendations on hairstyles
- Coordinates the appointment schedule for all services
- Observes patient behavior and reports any areas of concern or inappropriate behavior to the Charge Nurse
- Upon completion of services, escorts patients and clients to their destination as required
- Performs general duties related to the maintenance of the Hair Salon (e.g., cleaning, changing linens, ordering supplies)
- Keeps statistical data as required
- Works in compliance with the Health & Safety Act and its regulations, following all health and safety policies, procedures, and legislation, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Performs other related duties as assigned
