Job description

The Team
The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre is a program of Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The Maples is a designated provincial mental health facility providing on-site, community, outreach and ancillary services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities. The Maples target population consists of troubled youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and/or behavioural and/or emotional difficulties, ages 12 to 17; as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or Unfit to Stand Trial under the Criminal Code of Canada & Youth Criminal Justice Act. Additional services include community consultation service, training/capacity building opportunities and ongoing sharing of current literature. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, our objective is to collaboratively enhance the capacity of communities to plan and care for challenging youth through a closer to home focus.

The Role
Under the direction of a Shift Supervisor or Program Coordinator, the Nurse 4 performs vital work as a member of an interdisciplinary team, providing direct, comprehensive nursing care to clients at The Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre. This position impacts the lives of youth, families, and communities by offering on-site, community, outreach, and ancillary mental health services. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM) with a designation of RPN or RN.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds.


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Recent (within the past 3 years) work experience in the field of adolescent psychiatry.


Provisos:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restrictions and meets the transportation requirements of the Ministry.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C & AED.
  • As a condition of employment, must successfully complete Level 1 OFA.


Willingness Statements:

  • Shift work is a requirement as this is a 24-hour facility. Must be able to work days/ evenings/ midnights/ weekends.
  • Will be required to work around youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around youth in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.
  • Travel, as necessary, is a requirement.
  • Provide First Aid coverage and medical support for staff, as required under WorkSafe BC guidelines.
