JOB SUMMARY :

The Guideline Development Methodologist (GDM) is a Master’s prepared registered nurse responsible for leading the planning, research, and execution of best practice guidelines (BPG). The GDM supports the work of an interprofessional expert panel by conducting systematic reviews of the literature, developing evidence-based recommendation statements, writing guidelines, reports, and manuscripts for peer review, and preparing and presenting research at scientific meetings. The GDM collaborates with RNAO’s Implementation Science and Evaluation / Monitoring Teams to support implementation, evaluation, and sustainability of evidence-based practice cultures.

As a GDM, you will work on guidelines across various topics, including clinical, foundational, health equity, healthy work environment, and others. You will also be assigned to other guideline development initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Collaborate with the Research Team, Implementation Science and Evaluation / Monitoring team, Expert Panel members, health sciences librarians, and other subject matter experts to develop and maintain methodological rigour, clinical relevance, and timelines for BPGs.
  2. Plan and conduct systematic reviews of research questions, including literature searches, screening, data extraction, quality appraisal, and evidence synthesis to identify valid evidence for RNAO guidelines.
  3. Maintain international standards in guideline development, using GRADE and GRADE CERQual to appraise evidence and develop evidence-to-decision frameworks.
  4. Lead activities related to the systematic review process, including locating, retrieving, and distributing research reports.
  5. Produce search results, evidence profiles, evidence-to-decision frameworks, and work updates for review by leadership and expert panels.
  6. Oversee and direct the BPG development process from identifying key issues to final publication.
  7. Identify and recommend expert panel members.
  8. Develop draft evidence-based recommendations and lead consensus-building with panels.
  9. Draft, review, and refine guidelines based on feedback within set timeframes.
  10. Prepare guideline documents, manuscripts, and other related documents.
  11. Support the development of performance indicators and nursing quality indicators.
  12. Champion current and emerging evidence review and guideline development methodologies.
  13. Draft manuscripts for publication and mentor staff as needed.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Registered nurse with a strong understanding of evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and RNAO.
  • Master’s degree in nursing, health research, or a related field (Thesis preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of research and clinical nursing experience.
  • Deep knowledge of systematic review methodology.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new research opportunities.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with citation management software and bibliographic databases.
  • Proficiency with computers and office equipment.

EFFORT :

  • Requires continuous concentration for reading, screening, and appraising information.
  • Use of sight, touch, and hearing for reading, proofreading, writing, and analyzing information.
  • Frequent sitting for extended periods.
  • Workflow may require re-prioritizing and working overtime.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Work in a climate-controlled office with some exposure to distractions and stress.
  • No significant risk of injury.
