Job summary

Sandman Hotel Group is seeking a Front Desk Clerk to provide exceptional guest service at our BC property. You will handle check-ins/outs, answer questions, process payments, and maintain a welcoming front desk area. A strong service mindset and reliable communication are essential.

Experience in hospitality and basic accounting will help, with training provided. The role offers on-site work with opportunities for growth within a fast-growing Canadian hospitality company.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience as a front desk clerk is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in customer service and people management.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting practices and principles.
  • Ability to analyze guest needs and offer appropriate options and resolutions.
  • Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Check guests in and out of the hotel.
  • Answer guest questions and provide information.
  • Compute bills and collect payments.
  • Count and verify cash, shift activity, keys, and gift certificates.
  • Ensure front desk stocked with items guests may need.
  • Make welcome calls and maintain a clean front desk area.
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, or in person.
  • Assist with laundry tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a professional image and positive interactions with guests, visitors and partners.
  • Observe and report security issues to the Manager.
  • Assist with room preparation and amenities replenishment as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma,G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Experience as a Hotel Front Desk Clerk Preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience in all aspects of customer service and people management
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting practices and principles
  • Ability to analyze and interpret the needs of clients and offer the appropriate options, solutions, and resolutions required
  • Exceptional conflict resolution, negotiation, and objection handling skills
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for checking guests in and out of the Hotel.
  • Answer various questions from guests.
  • Compute bills, collectpayments
  • Count and verify cash, shift activity, keys, gift certificates.
  • Ensure front desk is stocked with any items guests may require before housekeeping leaves for the day.
  • Complete Welcome calls.
  • Clean and tidy front desk area.
  • Respond to telephone, e-mail, and in-person inquiries from clients, business partners, and other parties.
  • Assisting with Laundry (washing/drying & folding)
  • As a front-line worker, present a positive and professional image of the organization to all visitors, suppliers, inquiries, and other interactions.
  • Observe and report any security issues to the Manager.
  • Clean rooms- Restock all terry, soap, glasses, coffee and other amenities
  • Check under bed, drawers, and closet for left behind articles and or trash
  • Clean bathrooms and fixtures.
  • Clean coffee pots, microwaves & fridges- ensure all appliances are plugged in.
  • Arrange furniture following use by guests
  • Deliver and retrieve items on loan to guests
  • Ensure security of guest rooms and privacy of guests

APPLICABLE SKILLS:

  • Full Training will be provided, as well as ongoing coaching and support.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Training on Property Management Software will be provided
  • Excellent customer relations.
  • Respectful communicator - Friendly, approachable and helpful
  • Adaptable to change and be able to handle multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Eager and focused to exceed guest expectations.
