Job summary

A retirement community in Central Ontario is seeking a Guest Attendant to assist residents with daily living activities and provide compassionate care. Candidates should have a PSW or Health Care Aide Certification, strong communication skills, and experience in similar environments. This role requires a commitment to resident safety and empathy towards seniors' needs. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, organized, and capable of responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Experience in retirement or long-term care preferred.
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening within the last 6 months.
  • Recent TB test or Chest X-ray within the last year.

  • Monitor residents’ well-being, report changes, and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Provide emergency first aid and care until medical help arrives.

Guest Attendants report to the Health and Wellness Manager and provide residents with physical and personal care needs to a high standard with sensitivity. They demonstrate commitment to resident safety by providing quality care aligned with the organization’s vision and mission.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) according to the care plan.
  2. Administer medication following relevant legislative requirements and organizational policies.
  3. Perform housekeeping, laundry, and recreational activities.
  4. Display spontaneity and a positive attitude to adapt to changing moments.
  5. Monitor residents’ well-being, report changes, and respond to medical emergencies.
  6. Document Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) thoroughly.
  7. Follow procedures and protocols to ensure health and safety.
  8. Assist with dining services.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of resident information, including medications.
  10. Interact courteously with staff, residents, families, and visitors.
  11. Provide emergency first aid and care until medical help arrives.
  12. Assist with resident admissions and discharges as needed.
  13. Complete medication administration training and assist with medication administration.
  14. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • PSW or Health Care Aide Certification preferred.
  • Experience in retirement or long-term care preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Understanding and empathy for seniors’ needs.
  • Knowledge of nursing, health, and wellness processes.
  • Willingness to stay updated on regulations and practices.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
  • Physical and mental ability to perform duties.
  • Organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening within the last 6 months, recent TB test or Chest X-ray within the last year, and two supervisory references.
