Job summary

YMCA of Southwestern Ontario seeks a Group Fitness Instructor to lead engaging fitness sessions, coach participants, and model YMCA core values. You will promote health and wellness across the centre and support members in achieving their fitness goals.

Rate of pay is $17.60/hour with start date ASAP. Benefits include a YMCA membership, discounts on childcare and camp programs, vacation entitlement, up to 12 paid personal days (depending on contract), and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of training/post secondary education in Physical and/or Health Education or related field with 1+ years of related work experience preferred.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• YMCA Fitness Leadership Certification.
• YMCA Leadership in Group, Individual Conditioning (IC 1 and 2), Aquatic Trainers, Personal Trainer or other recognized certifications.
• Computer skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Current First Aid and CPR.
• Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Vaccination against COVID-19 per policy (exemptions possible with HR-approved documentation).

Responsibilities

• Provide coaching and demonstrate techniques for equipment use and expected benefits.
• Conduct Wellness Coaching sessions and orientation for individual conditioning.
• Monitor and supervise weight room access and equipment use.
• Perform routine maintenance and tidying of the Health & Wellness Centre facilities.
• Deliver YMCA policy and procedures in daily work and act as a YMCA ambassador.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 2 or more years of training/post secondary education in Physical and/or Health Education or related field along with 1+ years related work experience or a combination of both education and experience is preferred
• Excellent customer service skills
• YMCA Fitness Leadership Certification
• YMCA Leadership in Group, Individual Conditioning (IC 1 and 2), Aquatic Trainers, Personal Trainer (or other recognized certifications)
• Computer skills including Microsoft Word & Excel, & Outlook
• Current First Aid and CPR
• Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers
• It is a YMCA of Southwestern Ontario requirement that all employees and volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions will be granted upon receipt of acceptable proof of a permissible Human Rights Code ground. This requirement has been suspended effective June 30, 2022. It may be reinstated in future should the state of public health in our communities require it.

Responsibilities:

• YMCA of Southwestern Ontario policy and procedures
• Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in your daily work
• Responsible for providing coaching, direction and demonstrating techniques in the use of equipment and the expected outcome/benefit of so doing
• Conducts Wellness Coaching sessions and individual program review individual conditioning orientations
• Monitors/supervises access and use of equipment within the weight room area
• Routine maintenance/tidying of Health and Wellness Centre Conditioning Room facility
• Manage varying amounts of weight-cleaning, moving equipment, providing instruction
