A non-profit community organization in Coquitlam is seeking a Group Facilitator for the Y Mind Teen program. This part-time position involves co-leading psychoeducational sessions for youth experiencing mild to moderate anxiety. Ideal candidates will have a degree in mental health and experience working with young people. The role starts on September 16, 2025, and runs until March 31, 2026, with training required beforehand.

Location : Bettie Allard YMCA, 555 Emerson St, Coquitlam

Term : Temporary, Part-Time

Hours : 2.5 hours per week during program delivery.

Schedule : Participant Intake / Information Sessions : Tues Sep 16th & Sept 23rd , 4PM - 6 : 30PM

Program dates : Tues Oct 7th – Dec 2nd 4PM – 6 : 30PM

Each location runs up to 2 Y Mind Youth and Teen cycles per year, in Spring and Fall. No program delivery in Summer.

Start Date : Sep 16th2025. Availability for paid training required before this.

End Date : March 31st 2026

Salary : $30.00 per hour

Reports To : Y Mind Youth & Teen Supervisor, Mental Wellness Programs

Nature & Scope

The YMCA Y Mind Youth program is an early intervention, evidence-based program which supports young people aged 13-18 experiencing symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety to learn coping strategies and connect with peers in a safe and encouraging group environment.

The Y Mind Facilitator will co-lead this psychoeducation and support group with one other facilitator to help participants learn about their anxiety and discover helpful coping tools through creative activities and discussions grounded in mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The Y Mind Youth program meets for 1.5 hours weekly for 7 weeks. Two Y Mind facilitators are responsible for the intake and screening of 12 group participants, co-facilitation of the program, and delivery of the program.

Reporting to the Y Mind Teen & Youth Supervisor, the Y Mind Facilitator will work collaboratively with other staff and participants. If program participants require additional support, the Y Mind Facilitator will provide appropriate community referrals.

Major Responsibilities - in this position, you will :

  • Intake of program applicants at information sessions.
  • Co-facilitate psychoeducational group sessions and create a warm, welcoming, and safe group environment.
  • Maintain a strengths-based approach that inspires participants to engage in self-development & change.
  • Support applicants and participants to contact appropriate referrals to community agencies when necessary.
  • Organization of data for evaluation of program.
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards / policies / procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification - you bring :

  • Degree in mental health / counselling related field. Masters degree and professional body registration an asset.
  • Experience leading psychoeducational support groups.
  • Experience working with young people aged 13-18 with mild to moderate anxiety.
  • Understanding of mindfulness and knowledge of mindfulness practices.
  • Experience with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) preferred.
  • Experience conducting intakes.
  • Ability to recognize mental health signs and symptoms beyond the mild to moderate spectrum and provide referrals to appropriate medical and community agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
