Sterling Brokers is disrupting the Group Benefits and Retirement landscape in Canada through our innovative application, integrating with the largest insurance carriers in Canada and global HRIS platforms, to administer a streamlined solution. We are the largest independently owned and operated Third Party Administrator (TPA) and Broker in Canada, and 4th largest overall. Established in 2014, SCB is growing rapidly and looking for talented individuals to join our team.

About the role

The Claims & Group Benefits Specialist plays a crucial role on the Client Enablement Team at Sterling Brokers as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). The Client Enablement Team is responsible for providing services to the clients of Sterling Brokers as it pertains to disability claims, leave of absence services, and other complex cases. This role will specifically handle complex claims inquiries and disability claim submissions and play a pivotal role in managing and facilitating the claims process for SCB Clients. This role will have joint responsibilities as a Subject Matter Expert in group benefits and claiming procedures. In this capacity the position will support upskilling the Client Services team and their peers on the enablement team. This role will report into the Associate VP, Group Benefits and work side-by- side with our experienced team of representatives. This is a remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while contributing to our dynamic and collaborative team.

As we operate across Canada, this is a fully remote position.

What you'll do

  • Sterling is a rapidly growing and evolving business, but you can expect your day to involve the following projects and initiatives:
  • Actioning disability claim submissions and complex claim inquiries in the Sterling Brokers CRM, Zendesk.
  • Supporting members with questions regarding their disability applications and submission process.
  • Support the Client Services team with complex inquiries by providing their expertise.
  • Collaborate with clients to gather necessary documentation and advocate for fair claim settlements.
  • Managing and facilitating the claims process for Sterling clients and educating the Plan Administrators on the disability submission process.
  • Liaising with carriers to provide a high level of service and responsiveness to our clients while working closely with internal teams and clients to ensure efficient resolutions to their claims.
  • Maintaining plan member information in the relevant online platforms inclusive of our internal system, SCBConnect.
  • Producing training collateral for the Client Services team on claims, best practices, and other relevant topics.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of benefits claims experience.
  • Group Benefits experience in a small to medium size brokerage or carrier business.
  • Experience working out of CRM and automation tools such as Salesforce, Monday.com, Zendesk and Liaising with insurance carriers etc.
  • Computer Literacy: MS Word packages, Slack, Confluence/Atlassian (nice to have), Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • GBA certification is considered an asset
  • Bilingual (French) is considered an asset
