Job Summary

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, responsible for processing payroll for over 10,000 employees, including union and non-union staff in Teaching and Educational Services. Duties include preparing and validating payrolls, analyzing payroll and benefits reports, addressing employee inquiries, and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and collective agreements.

Major Duties
  • Payroll Processing: Prepare and process payroll, verify timesheets, manage deductions, update employee information, and handle manual cheques and overpayments.
  • Payroll Public Relations and Communications: Respond to employee inquiries, communicate with external agencies, and coordinate with HR for claims.
  • Records Management and Claims Processing: Complete audits, process grievances, handle records of employment, garnishments, WSIB, and insurance claims.
  • Benefits Administration: Maintain knowledge of benefits, calculate premiums, manage changes, and coordinate benefit payments.
  • Calculating and Reporting: Manage pension contributions, input leaves, and respond to related inquiries.
  • Administrative Support: Perform general administrative tasks and assist the Payroll Manager as needed.

Equipment Used: Computer, printer, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, telephone, date stamper, paper cutter.

Qualifications And Skills
  • Post-Secondary School Diploma in relevant field.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (PCP) or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, electronic payroll systems, and collective agreements.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and handling confidential information.

Note: This is a 35-hour per week, temporary contract position commencing as soon as possible until April 17, 2026.
