Job Summary

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, responsible for processing payroll for over 10,000 employees, including union and non-union staff in Teaching and Educational Services. Duties include preparing and validating payrolls, analyzing payroll and benefits reports, addressing employee inquiries, and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and collective agreements.

Major Duties
  1. Payroll Processing: Prepare and process payroll, verify timesheets, manage deductions, update employee info, handle manual cheques, investigate banking issues, and manage overpayments.
  2. Payroll Public Relations and Communications: Respond to employee inquiries, manage sensitive info, communicate with external agencies, and coordinate with HR for workers’ compensation and insurance claims.
  3. Records Management and Claims Processing: Complete audits, process grievance pay-outs, manage records of employment, garnishments, WSIB, and insurance claims.
  4. Benefits Administration: Maintain knowledge of benefits, calculate premiums, manage deductions, and coordinate benefit payments for employees on unpaid leave or retiring.
  5. Calculating and Reporting: Manage pension contributions, report for OMERS and TIM, input leaves, and respond to inquiries related to TIM and pension eligibility.
  6. Administrative Support: Perform general administrative tasks including document management and filing.
  7. Additional Duties: Assist with tasks as assigned by the Payroll Manager.

Equipment Used: Computer, printer, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, telephone, date stamper, paper cutter.

Qualifications And Skills
  • Post-Secondary School Diploma in relevant field.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (PCP) or demonstrated equivalent experience required.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, electronic payroll systems, and collective agreements.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to manage deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and handling confidential information.

Note: This is a 35-hour per week, temporary contract position commencing as soon as possible until April 17, 2026.
