Job summary

Real Canadian Superstore in Abbotsford, BC, part of Loblaw Companies Limited, is seeking a Department Manager in Training to develop leadership skills and deliver outstanding customer experiences.

You will work in a fast-paced retail environment, oversee a department, coach associates, and help achieve store objectives while fostering a culture of belonging and continuous improvement. Training program provides growth opportunities and exposure to key business metrics.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Flexibility to learn through different training media.
  • Previous retail management experience is an asset.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of retail operations, inventory, and customer service.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

Department Manager In Training

As a Department Manager in Training, you'll complete a comprehensive development program that equips you with the skills, knowledge, and experience to lead a high-performing department and deliver exceptional results for our customers, colleagues, and store.

In this role, you will learn how to
  • Partner with store leaders to understand and contribute to achieving key business metrics, including profit and loss, customer satisfaction, execution standards, audit compliance, labour management, and productivity.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of a designated department, ensuring operational excellence and exceptional customer service.
  • Drive department sales and profitability by meeting or exceeding performance goals.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of colleagues, building their skills in customer service, product knowledge, merchandising, and operational excellence.
  • Create a positive and inclusive workplace by fostering colleague engagement, development, retention, and a culture of belonging.
  • Ensure merchandise is accurately stocked, displayed, priced, and replenished through effective inventory management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for both customers and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with store management and department leaders to support store-wide priorities and deliver business results.
  • Partner with the store leadership team to implement people strategies that align with business objectives, company culture, and values.
  • Uphold merchandising, operational, and compliance standards while driving continuous improvement across the department.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred
  • Flexibility and the ability to learn via a variety of mediums
  • Previous retail management experience is an asset, preferably in a departmental or specialty store setting
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and develop associates
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of retail operations, including merchandising, inventory management, and customer service
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
