Job summary

Activar, Inc. is seeking a Grinder to prepare components by grinding and smoothing surfaces with powered grinders. The role includes selecting abrasives, attaching them to tools, and polishing to achieve a defect-free finish.

The position is on-site in Canada, with a first shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and requires adherence to safety, quality standards, and proper handling of materials and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Ability to operate barcode readers, terminals, and forklift.
  • Familiarity with Windows and basic software.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Grinds and smooths surfaces using powered grinders and abrasives.
  • Selects abrasive grades per specifications and attaches to grinder.
  • Polishes ground areas to produce smooth, unmarked surfaces.
  • Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
  • Maintains clean and organized work environment.
  • Complies with safety and company policies.

Job description

This position is responsible for grinding and smoothing surfaces of components prior to finishing operations, using powered portable wheel, disk, or belt grinder. The Grinder will be select grades of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications.

This position will work first shift Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Grinds and smooths surfaces of components prior to finishing operations, using powered portable wheel, disk, or belt grinder, including examining and feeling surfaces of work pieces for defects.
  • Selects grades of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attaches to grinder.
  • Polishes ground areas with finer abrasive to produce smooth, unmarked surface.
  • Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts using unavailable tools.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Reports immediately to supervisor/lead/manager any and all problems, which may affect safety, equipment, tooling, and/or quality.
  • Maintains full working knowledge of all processes.
  • Ensures a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adheres to all company standards and policies.
  • Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to meet company production requirements.
  • Ability to operate machines including, but not limited to bar code reader, computer terminal, other electronic devices, and forklift.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and the capacity to learn new systems.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and effective organizational skills.

  • Skill in performing accurate arithmetic functions involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; using decimals, percentages, fractions, and ratios.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification.
