Job summary

Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a Cook to prepare and cook high-quality meals according to standards. You will set up mise en place, maintain safety, and support high-volume production in a university dining environment.

Ideal candidates have proven cooking experience, food safety certification, and the ability to work both independently and within a team to ensure timely, accurate service.

Qualifications

• Proven cooking experience in restaurant or prep cook roles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiar with industry best practices in food handling and preparation.
• Accuracy and speed in tasks.
• Physically capable of performing duties.
• Strong understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
• Food safety certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, pre-cook and cook food as directed.
• Set up mise en place for high-volume production.
• Clean kitchen equipment following health and safety policies.
• Label, date, store and rotate food and beverages properly.
• Communicate with operational departments as needed.
• Report maintenance issues or accidents to supervisor promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Description

Prepares food in accordance with applicable corporate standards, guidelines and regulations with established policies and procedures. Ensures quality food service is provided at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare, pre-cook and/or cook food products as directed.
• Prepare "mise en place" (setting in place of foods, garnishes, sauces, dishes, cutlery, etc) and other products as required for high volume production.
• Clean kitchen equipment after use according to health and safety policies and procedures.
• Label, date, store and rotate food and beverage products in appropriate storage areas.
• Communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments.
• Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
• Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
