What You Will Get To Do

This position reports to the Supervisor of Operations (Parks) and/or the Manager of Operations (Parks), and is under the daily direction of the Working Foreperson(s).

The Grass Cutting Crew Leader is a permanent position working 9 months each year, and is responsible for performing the duties associated with parks and grounds maintenance, including but not limited to:

  • full scope grounds maintenance such as grass cutting and trimming;

  • leaf and/or debris clean-up;

  • providing guidance and direction to grass cutting crew members;

  • safe operation of small motorized equipment such as lawnmowers and trimmers;

  • safe operation of mid-sized equipment such as tractors, mowers and trucks towing a trailer;

  • accurate fuelling of all equipment and/or vehicles;

  • ensuring all vehicles, equipment and/or tools are operated and maintained in a safe and professional manner;

  • Assist with snow removal activities;

  • providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public and other members of staff in a courteous manner; and,

  • other duties as required and assigned.

You foster a collaborative team environment among co-workers, and work well both independently and as part of a team. You solve problems by identifying, gathering and processing relevant information to determine possible solutions, research options, evaluate them using your technical, numerical and analytics skills and make recommendations.

You are knowledgeable about and work in compliance with all workplace safety regulations, standards, and practices. You perform work in a safe manner and encourage and support others to do the same.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:

  • a secondary school graduation diploma;

  • a minimum of one (1) year directly related experience with parks and/or grounds maintenance;

  • successful candidates are required to hold and maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "DZ" Driver's License and qualify for the Town’s Safe Driver Program criteria with demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 kg., G.V.W.;

  • a successful completion of Defensive Driving training, preferred;

  • the ability to operate various vehicles, tools and/or equipment in a safe and professional manner; and

  • physically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour with heavy lifting in varying weather conditions.

Salary Range/Hourly rate:

$30.26 - $37.84

Hours:

This position may work flex hours, including days, afternoons, and nights, forty (40) hours per week. Between December-March shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. Between the months of April-November shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., Sunday to Saturday.
