Graphic Designer (Temporary 18-month contract)

Do you have a passion for transforming ideas into captivating visuals and experience in corporate in-house graphic design? If so, keep reading!

The Graphic Designer is responsible for the visual identity of CPA Alberta’s publications, communications, and other resources through creation and design conforming to CPA Alberta’s brand standards. The Graphic Designer will collaborate with internal clients to establish the conceptual and stylistic visual identity of projects across various media, including digital, print, and video.

This position reports to the Director of Communications and works alongside another Graphic Designer.

Please note this is an 18-month contract position to cover a maternity leave.

CPA Alberta has offices in Edmonton and Calgary and provides hybrid telecommuting opportunities (working from home a maximum of 3 days a week).

What you bring
  • Post-secondary diploma in graphic design or visual communications with three years of graphic design experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Beginner to intermediate video editing and animation skills.
  • Exceptional ability to multi-task.
  • Experience gained from working as part of an in-house design team preferred.
  • Experience with large publications such as magazines or complex brochures/reports is an asset.
  • Knowledge of digital communications is an asset.
  • Photography and videography skills are an asset.
What you will be doing
  • Develop and present design concepts for various media to internal clients in a collaborative fashion
    • Implement provided ideas and content into the design.
    • Select and prepare appropriate visual elements for the project.
  • Oversee the production of various communication materials, including publications, digital assets, and others, from the design stage to the final product.
  • Liaise with external vendors such as photographers, printers, etc., to ensure timely and efficient provision of services.
  • Coordinate any changes and edits to projects for final signoff by client.
  • Acquire quotes from outside suppliers and present and discuss quotes with clients.
  • Ensure all materials to be printed both internally and externally are scheduled appropriately so they are printed in time to meet established distribution timelines.
  • Upon signoff of project, prepare and transfer file(s) for commercial printing.
  • Approve initial press proof (when possible).
  • Deliver sample to client.
  • Research design trends and best practices.
