DUTIES:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Communications, Public Relations, and Customer Service, the Digital Media Designer handles a wide range of projects, is skilled in every step of the design process from concept to final deliverables and develops innovative designs to meet the needs of stakeholders. This role demands a solid understanding of media platforms, including their dynamics and metrics, the ability to capture photo and video content; and the ability to apply exceptional graphic design skills. Managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing key tasks and meeting tight deadlines are key to success. Collaborating with multiple teams across the corporation, this position requires the ability to work independently as well as cooperatively.
Key duties include the following:- Deliver compelling and creative design as assigned for a range of marketing materials including, but not limited to, advertisements, logos, brochures, social media and web assets, newsletters, reports, infographics, and other communication assets (both internal and external) that align with corporate visual identity standards.
- Ensure the City of Windsor visual identity standards remain consistently applied across owned, earned, shared, and paid media channels to maintain brand standards.
- Develop, schedule and post engaging and relevant content (text, images, videos) across paid, owned, earned, and shared media platforms.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on multimedia performance.
- Contribute to the team effort by helping others in the department to meet deadlines and complete projects in a timely manner.
- Attend corporate, community, and media events as assigned as well as site locations across the city to capture and build content for photo and video repositories.
- Maintain organized files and databases for design assets, photos and videos for easy access and future use.
- Implement accessibility standards, including those set out in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), to ensure compliance when finalizing any digital product with the potential to reach an impacted audience.
- Design assets for web and intranet pages designed to enhance the user experience.
- Monitor, triage and respond to inquiries received in various communication department emails
- Helps with Internet web designs and produces web pages, post news events and upcoming
- events to the web pages
- Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:- Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma plus three (3) years of post-secondary education from a Community College or University in the area of Media, Communications or Journalism or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies;
- Must have over two (2) years of experience in a graphic design, video editing, website design, or multimedia production.
- Expertise in using Adobe Creative Cloud products, in particular Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, After Effects, and Premiere Pro.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating a wide scope of projects, including both print and digital assets, that demonstrate creativity, technical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of layout, colour theory and typography.
- Understanding of print production and digital design.
- Detail-oriented approach to work with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Must have the ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current, valid and lawful Driver’s Licence is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
- Must have knowledge of content marketing, including research, writing and design best practices.
- Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to clearly communicate design ideas and concepts with stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently and problem solve in technical areas is considered an asset.
- Fluency in both official languages will be considered an asset.
- The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a sedentary level of work.
