Scope of Position:

The 'Grant Writer - Public Funds Specialist' will focus on identifying, securing, and managing public funding opportunities. Responsibilities include coordinating proposal teams, understanding federal, state, and local funding requirements, and ensuring compliance with grant management standards. The role reports to the Divisional Social Services Director and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to secure funding supporting The Salvation Army's mission.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Proven ability to develop successful proposals, including securing awards over $1 million.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional proposal teams.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local funding requirements, including compliance and reporting.
  • Proficiency with systems and software like SAM.gov, Grants.gov, eCivis; foundation funding knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including persuasive writing and editing (writing sample required).
  • Relevant certifications or training in grant writing and management preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Identify and assess funding opportunities from government sources.
  2. Lead proposal teams to develop grant applications, ensuring compliance and deadlines.
  3. Collaborate with program staff to align proposals with strategic priorities and funder expectations.
  4. Manage grant administration, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
  5. Maintain records in systems like SAM.gov and Grants.gov.
  6. Build and maintain relationships with funding agencies and stakeholders.
  7. Conduct staff training on public funding processes.
  8. Analyze feedback from unsuccessful proposals to improve future applications.
  9. Track and evaluate grant performance to inform strategies.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in an office environment, sit for extended periods, and use a computer and phone. Occasional travel may be required.

Working Conditions:

Primarily office-based, with possible off-site engagements and extended hours during deadlines.

Miscellaneous:

The selected candidate must pass a criminal history check. Past convictions will be considered in context.

Education and Work Experience:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Communications, Business, or related field, with at least 5 years of grant writing experience, including success in securing public funding. (Details of past successes required.)

License and Certifications:
