Job description

The Executive Education team in the Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Grant Proposal Advisor for approximately 2 years.

This position reports to the Director, Executive Education, and will play a pivotal role in advancing the mandate of Executive Education by identifying, leading, and preparing the development of highly competitive funding proposals in support of program development and delivery and project management of awards thereafter. This role involves crafting compelling proposals, submitting grant and sponsorship applications to support open and customized programs, developing bids for capacity-building projects and other strategic initiatives.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to) :

  • Actively seek and conduct background research into potential funders including Canadian and international governments, international development agencies, public-private sector led initiatives, foundations, corporations, and other sources.
  • Monitor websites, social media and news channels for competition openings and maintain active relationships with funder / program administrators.
  • Seek public and private Requests for Proposals (RFP) for professional development programming and partnership opportunities.
  • Acting on behalf of the Haskayne School of Business, serve as the primary point of contact with funding agencies and program administrators.
  • Ensure stakeholders are appropriately informed, in a timely manner, of emerging opportunities, program changes and requirements.
  • Attend training opportunities that focus on local and international funding and funding administration to maintain continued education.
  • Facilitate internal communication and collaboration among stakeholders by developing organizational strategies that enhance cooperation, and by facilitating events, meetings, and other opportunities that bring the team together to ensure funding applications are thorough and completed in advance of the agency deadline.
  • Work with Director, Executive Education and other team members to develop funding proposals and RFP submissions to provincial and national granting agencies, public and private enterprise.
  • Develop expert knowledge of the Professional Development and Executive Education space and programs that fall within the portfolio.
  • Set internal deadlines for applications, including building a project timeline and plan.
  • Develop and prepare grant proposals, letters of intent, background documentation, program rationales, budget outlines, and other materials, as required.
  • Provide leadership and advice on preparation of collaborative proposals and manage the development of individual and multidisciplinary funding applications.
  • Write substantial, professionally produced content to build out sections of the proposal based on interviews with faculty and other team members.
  • Provide fulsome copy edits and formatting of proposals.
  • Formulate budgets to ensure that all funding agency and university requirements are met.
  • Track reporting requirements and ensure timely submission of progress reports and renewal proposals.

Qualifications / Requirements :

  • Bachelors or graduate degree in business, communications, or a related discipline required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in developing, writing, critiquing or evaluating funding applications and proposals. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A certificate or training in grant writing or project procurement is considered an asset.
  • Proven experience in building successful funding proposals and familiarity with local, provincial and national agencies or organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage large, collaborative projects in a timely and successful manner.
  • Exceptional knowledge of successful grant application procedures and granting agency requirements.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills, including the ability to multi-task a range of complex projects and to meet required deadlines.
  • Proven mastery of English grammar and syntax, excellent verbal and written communication skills is required. Writing samples will be requested for those candidates chosen for an interview.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues to the non-expert reader.
  • Excellent critical review and substantive editing skills.
  • Ability to provide effective presentations as necessary.
  • A good understanding of the funding environment and substantial knowledge of university culture and operating procedures is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, act decisively and to exercise a high degree of initiative and judgement on a wide range of issues, using discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team and adapt to multiple competing priorities to develop new initiatives and program directions as needed.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
